When it comes to securing your backyard while maintaining an attractive, cohesive look, Allied Iron offers two premium options — the Standard Privacy Gate and the TRU Privacy Gate. Both are handcrafted at our Tempe facility and built to the highest standards, but each has its own design advantages depending on your style and privacy needs.
Frame Options: Built for Strength and Style
Both gate styles come standard with a 1-1/2” x 1-1/2” frame and a gravity latch, providing reliable strength and easy operation. Homeowners can choose to upgrade to:
1-1/2” x 2” frame – for a slightly sturdier, more substantial appearance
1-1/2” x 4” frame – for a bold, robust look that makes a statement
These frame options allow you to personalize your gate’s appearance while maintaining superior durability and function.
Standard Privacy Gate: Classic Strength with Slight Visibility
Standard Privacy Gates are constructed using 1/2” steel pickets welded vertically between each board. This design adds strength and rigidity to the structure, ensuring long-lasting performance.
However, because of the vertical pickets, small gaps exist between the boards — which slightly increase visibility through the gate. While this design adds dimension, it’s ideal for homeowners who prefer a touch of openness without compromising on security.
TRU Privacy Gate: Enhanced Privacy and Modern Appeal
The TRU Privacy Gate is engineered for homeowners seeking a more private, contemporary design. Unlike the Standard version, it is built without vertical pickets, creating narrower gaps between boards.
This design doesn’t completely eliminate visibility, but it significantly reduces it, offering enhanced privacy while maintaining an aesthetic balance. The clean, seamless appearance makes it a great choice for modern homes or spaces where privacy is a top priority.
Hardware Differences: Carriage Bolts vs. Button Heads
Another key distinction between the two designs lies in their hardware:
Standard Privacy Gate – Uses carriage bolts with a 1/2” diameter head. The bolts pierce through each board and are fastened with a nut on the back. This creates a traditional look with visible bolt heads on the front and back.
TRU Privacy Gate – Uses Button Heads and screws, with larger 3/4” diameter heads on the front. The screws attach securely to a tube, leaving no visible hardware on the back — giving the gate a sleek, polished finish.
This hardware choice contributes not only to the gate’s appearance but also to maintenance ease and longevity.
